After having a difficult 2020 I knew that I needed to get back out into the world. I was very lucky to find Einar and Feast in the Wild Tours! As a novice hiker, I was more than a little nervous about attempting such a long hike. I greatly underestimated what I was getting myself into after mostly training on flat Florida trails. Einar definitely had my back though. He helped me each step of the way starting with before I even left. He sent emails with lots of info that I really appreciated, he also went a step above by checking COVID restrictions and guidelines and keeping me informed on what I would need to do and have ready before leaving the country. He sent a list of equipment as well as information on layering and clothing material. Living in the southern US I'm used to hot weather, so it was really helpful having someone guide me through gear for cold weather.
I also was very happy with the tour. As a solo female traveler in my mid 20s, my first priority is my safety. Einar has an awesome big brother personality that really helped the group dynamics (as the group was made up of solo female travelers). I never felt uncomfortable on the trip and felt that Einar was able to keep a level of professional even when joking around with us. I would definitely recommend him to any solo female traveler who is a little nervous about traveling alone.
The actual hike was one of the best experiences I've had in my few years of traveling abroad. Having someone like Einar who was well versed in the geography and vegetation definitely made the trip better. He helped with pronunciation of names, he made sure we knew what we were doing each day, and he was able to answer questions we had about the trail.
The food was amazing. I unfortunately have to eat a gluten free diet and Einar was more than accommodating. It was great that he was knowledgable in gluten free, but he was able to easily incorporate that into his menu and I have never had better food! I ate foods I wouldn't normally eat at home and I loved it. I even had to ask for a few recipes from him to try at home. Even if you weren't an outdoorsy, hiking person, I would go just for his food.
I am so lucky that I found Einar for my trip to Iceland. I am even considering planning another trip next summer with him. Though this time I will fortunately know what I'm actually getting myself into. But thanks to this amazing experience, I've fallen in love with hiking as well as Iceland and now go on hikes nearly every weekend. I definitely recommend this tour and Einar.
